*The Apprentice Company
The Atlanta Shakespeare Company at the New American Shakespeare Tavern
offers an eight-month Apprenticeship for post-education, professional actors.  It is designed for new professional actors and actresses bridging the gap between post-secondary professional acting training and the rest of their professional careers.  Interested candidates might have an interest in modern Shakespeare performance or interest in the life of a resident actor in an ongoing artistic ensemble, or have never had any particular training in Shakespeare at all.

Auditions are May 11th, 12th and 13th for the 2008-2009 season, during regular Tavern General Auditions.  Callbacks are May 18th, 19th and 20th.

The by-audition-only Company of eight actors begins the season in September and continues to the end of April.  Exact start and end dates always tba until July.

The Apprenticeship involves intensive acting training and performance in mainstage Tavern shows in Shakespeare as well as training in back stage/front of house support for artistic and management staff.  Areas of study include Voice, Text, Original Practice, Movement, Dance, Madrigal, Fight and Structure of the Verse as well as lighting, stage management, marketing, and Alexander Technique.  Performance on the Tavern stage is part of the package and total hourly commitment varies by week and month from 10 to 20 hours.  Those hours will be a combination of daytimes, weekends and evenings.  Apprentices also understudy significant roles in the regular season and are used as support staff in different areas of the Company such as concessions, Education, Costuming, Box Office and Publicity.

A flexible work schedule is an absolute requirement.
ASC is a Equal Opportunity Employer
Paid position.

In-depth information on the Apprentice Company will be available at General Auditions in May and on our website.  To be called back for consideration as an Apprentice, you must make an appointment to be seen at Tavern General Auditions (May 11, 12 and 13th).

Also, make sure you try to see a Tavern performance between now and your audition.  We have a unique performance style that is important to our training program.

For your preliminary audition, please prepare at least one verse monologue (min. 20 lines) from Shakespeare.  Additional contrasting monologue recommended.  If you have additional skills (music, clown, movement, play a musical instrument) please be prepared to demonstrate them.
