ASC Joins the Folger Shakespeare Library’s Theater Partnership Program
ASC is thrilled to be part of a partnership with the Folger Shakespeare Library that facilitates the exchange of educational content between the Folger and its partner theaters across the country and provides opportunities for theater staff, educators, and admirers of Shakespeare to connect and further their investigation of Shakespeare and his plays. The Theater Partnership Program will expand ASC’s ongoing professional relationship with the Folger. ASC’s Director of Education and Training, Laura Cole, has personally worked with the staff of the Folger’s Education Division by teaching workshops during the Folger’s annual Teaching Shakespeare conference for middle and high school teachers interested in learning more about the best practices in teaching Shakespeare to students.
As a member of the Folger’s Theater Partnership Program, ASC contributes monthly to the Folger’s electronic Theater Partnership Content Digest, providing updates on our Mainstage shows and ongoing education programs as well as sharing blog posts written by ASC actors and study guides created by ASC Education Department staff. The Folger shares articles, podcasts, and lesson plans, allowing partner theaters to explore the scholarly work that Folger staff and researchers are pursuing and to benefit from the Folger’s substantial collection of digitized educational materials. The Folger is known for internationally recognized scholarship and educational research informed by the pedagogical belief that students best learn about Shakespeare’s plays through a combination of reading, speaking, and performing lines from the plays. We encourage teachers to use the extensive educational resources available on the Folger website at http://www.folger.edu/teach-learn in conjunction with ASC’s in-class residencies and playshops that provide students with engaging opportunities to speak Shakespeare’s words. ASC’s partnership with the Folger will also allow our patrons and teachers to participate in digital events hosted by the Folger. If you have questions about ASC’s partnership with the Folger, please contact Laura Cole at .
